How to install Delta-T

Measure the system volume as accurately as possible. 1 litre of Delta-T is required for every 200 litres of system volume. Delta-T can be added via a dosing pot, or a system drain valve. Ensure that adequate time is allowed when mixing through the dosing pot. Delta-T mixes easily with system water.

Installing Delta-T into a Standard Radiator

Prepare the System

Turn off the boiler for safety. If you have a combi boiler, relieve pressure by venting the system. Choose a radiator with a drain valve, or use the boiler’s drain valve, and loosen the bleed screw to reduce pressure.

Isolate the Radiator

Close the radiator’s inlet and outlet valves to isolate it. Loosen the joint on the inlet or outlet side and drain approximately 1 litre of water. Retighten the joint afterward.

Add Delta-T

Remove the plug at the top of the radiator and pour in the Delta-T. Securely replace the radiator plug and ensure the bleed screw is closed and tightened.

Restart and Bleed the System

Reopen the radiator’s inlet and outlet valves, turn on the boiler, and bleed any trapped air from the radiators. Check the system pressure and adjust to the manufacturer’s recommended level, usually around 1 bar.

Installing Delta-T into a Towel Radiator

Prepare the System

As with a standard radiator, turn off the boiler and relieve system pressure. Select a towel radiator, which typically has top plugs for easier access.

Isolate the Radiator

Close the inlet and outlet valves to isolate the towel radiator. Loosen a valve joint and drain approximately 1 litre of water, then retighten the joint.

Add Delta-T

Remove the top plug, pour in the Delta-T, and refit and tighten the plug. Ensure the bleed screw is also secured.

Restart and Bleed the System

Open the valves, bleed any trapped air, and repressurise the system. Restart the boiler and check for proper operation.

Installing Delta-T via a Header/Expansion Tank

Prepare the System

For conventional vented systems, locate the feed and expansion tank, typically found in the loft. Drain about 1 litre of water from the system by isolating the water supply and draining via a radiator or drain valve.

Add Delta-T

Pour Delta-T directly into the expansion tank.

Refill and Bleed the System

Turn the water supply back on and allow the tank to refill. Bleed the radiators to remove any trapped air.

Installing Delta-T via a Magnetic Filter Unit

Prepare the System

Turn off the boiler and isolate the magnetic filter by closing the valves on either side of it.

Drain the Filter

Carefully open the filter’s drain valve to release water into a container, being cautious of hot water.

Add Delta-T

Unscrew the lower body of the filter, fill it with Delta-T, and securely reattach it.

Reopen the System

Reopen the valves to allow system water back into the filter, and turn the boiler on to circulate the Delta-T.

Multiple Doses (if necessary)

If the system requires more Delta-T than the filter can hold, let the initial dose circulate for 15 minutes before repeating the procedure.

Installing Delta-T via a Dosing Pot

Prepare the System

Ensure the boiler is running, and the system is at operating temperature. Confirm that the fill valve, drain valve, and vent valve on the dosing pot are all closed.

Check for Circulation

Open the inlet and outlet valves of the dosing pot. Wait a few minutes to ensure the vessel becomes warm, indicating good circulation.

Release Pressure

Close the inlet and outlet valves. Carefully release the pressure by opening the vent valve or slightly opening the drain valve.

Drain the Dosing Pot

Fully open the drain valve and fill valve to drain the dosing pot completely. Once drained, close the drain and vent valves.

Add Delta-T

Add Delta-T to the dosing pot via the fill valve. Once filled, close the fill valve.

Reopen the Valves

Slowly open the inlet and outlet valves, allowing circulation. Monitor the dosing pot until it reaches the system’s operating temperature.

Final Steps

If additional dosing is needed, repeat the process. After the final dose, the dosing pot can remain isolated unless continuous circulation is required.
